My first attempt at carving a figure (whip)

Hi Guys,
I hope you like it, any advice in carving a human body would be appreciated. I made a lot of mistakes like not using a reference picture or a model, I just used some online picture as a guide. I am hoping to start another piece, but this time I would like to use a good reference model, maybe like 360 views of a model. Is there any such an affordable place online for this kind of thing?
Thank you.

Meduim: Sandstone.
Polished: Carborundum stone Grit 60 / 80

Previews carved work.

Also, include the clay work before going on stone.

Re: My first attempt at carving a figure (whip)

Hi Tedrix,

Carving is something I always wanted to try. Love your foot and hand clay sculptures and then carvings in stone. Very intricate and detailed.

Your lady has a really nice 3/4 view of her belly and on up showing sideview of breast etc. She has a petite pretty mouth. She has a nice arch to her back.

For a critique, I would give some attention to the neck. She sort of looks like her neck in scrunched inwards or not long enough. Since this is a carving and you can't add anything back, maybe you can carve downwards toward her necklace and elongate her neck that direction. Softly demonstrate the sternomastoid muscle.

Perhaps looking at her rib cage and note the width of it in relation to her the wide of her face. Her rib cage looks too narrow, even for very narrow girls. Maybe making her cheeks a little less wide will put things a little more in natural proportion range. Just an idea there.

For a petite girl with a dainty mouth, her nose seems wide, mainly her nostrils.

Those are just a few ideas. Overall, you have a lovely lady there! Great work and thank you for sharing.

Do you watch "Scorpion" on TV? Your lady's head and face look the the character "Happy" on that show. She has a wide nose and face and a small mouth. I love your hand and foot sculptures! Your lady is quite interesting. Well done!

@ Thank you sculpturedolls, You're right, I took note of what you've said and I will implement this tomorrow. :-) Will post the updated one here.

@ArtsyLynda, I haven't watched "Scorpion" but I googled it, actually she looks like similar. :-) But probably the end result would look quite different from this, as I intend to narrow the nose and the jaw and bring some changes. Anyway, I am not really bothered by the end of it as I sill consider this a piece of practice.

@muda
Totally Agree. I found one website online has really cool 360 female/male model, with quite reasonable prices around $6 a pose. I am not sure if it is ok or not to post the link in here, let me know and I can share it with you here.
