I do think Terry Ludwig does put thought into what the boxes will look like. He uses up his "seconds" pastels, but he seems to try to put together boxes of pastels that are very useful. It makes the box all that more interesting to buy, which is probably why he sold out so quickly this year. This is the second time I've done it, and I'm happy with both purchases. I really think you can do a painting using just the pastels in the box, pretty neat!
