A couple of people have made some COVID-19 modifications to famous works of art and shared them on Twitter to add a lighter note during a time of widespread confusion and panic:
Ben Jennings gave a shelter-in-place atmosphere to Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” painting: https://twitter.com/BJennings90/status/1239289008456437760
Robert Reich added a bit of hand sanitizer to Michelangelo’s “Love and Death” painting: https://twitter.com/RBReich/status/1239721559847100416

Hmm. Mona Lisa in a face mask.
Venus de Milo pretty much as is.
American Gothic landscape six feet apart.
Wish there was an entire thread of them all. I don’t do Twitter but something like #CovidArt

March 25, 2020 at 12:47 pm #962604I’d love to see the Mona Lisa one and it looks like a lot of people have already modified the American Gothic painting in several rather creative ways over the years (I even saw one with a Stormtrooper mask).
This one isn’t quite art, but it’s artistic in nature, so I figured I’d post it. Press TV posted a video of Daniel Kheirikhah demonstrating Covid-19 handwashing techniques while acting as a conductor: https://twitter.com/PressTV/status/1233406423620562947 Note that the sound for that one doesn’t come on automatically, at least at this end.
Also, someone did create the #covidart hashtag on Twitter, but it’s got a little of everything, so you have to weed through it all: https://twitter.com/hashtag/covidart?src=hash

My Flickr SiteApril 4, 2020 at 12:19 pm #962605Thanks for the link. Somehow I’m not surprised that he found that to make fun of since toilet paper is a mighty odd thing for everyone to have bought out.
Interestingly, Stefan Baumann put out a podcast the other day in which he suggested finding a way to paint what’s going on in your life as a result of the virus, with that being whatever it means to you and whatever impact it has on your life. That way your painting will have historical significance, regardless of whether that’s just for you or your family or others.

I guess we can all take a look around at what we think we ought to paint that tells our story, hopefully in a more interesting way than just a painting of an empty or nearly empty toilet paper roll (although that could, and probably should, be done well, too).
