Re: The cave (Gouache)

Good comp. intriguing scene, makes me wonder who’s in the cave. Another homosapien maybe, as I see the one guy the left seems to be uttering something.

Rare to see story illustrations here, very nice work. Feels like one of those illustrations you'd see in softcover book about neolithic history.

Yes, I like it as well. The anticipation of wondering when and what crazed animal will be coming out of the cave. It definitely tells a story for sure.

Re: The cave (Gouache)

Wonderful! It checks all the boxes in my list of what I wish I was better at:
- good variation in the greens of the foliage
- excellent rendering of the rock formations
- anatomy of the figures is spot on IMHO
- great use of atmospheric perspective
- ...and it provokes thought & imagination in the viewer (e.g. what happens next?)

Good job!

Doug

Re: The cave (Gouache)

Bravo! Man, I wish I could do something like that in gouache! As another poster commented, it is very much in the spirit of a 1960s or 1970s book illustration, a golden age of commercial art IMHO. Your balance of composition, color and narrative is impressive. Glad to see a new “old-school” illustration on here!
