Re: MTM Jan.1-14 Painting Clouds n Skies

Graham...Hurray it's great, really!! Thank you so much for giving it a go, and you only did it twice that's pretty good and should tell you something yes...keep on playing in the clouds.. You have the shape and the movement super!!! You'll know when to stop but when the urge to keep going is too great, start another.... Wasn't too bad was it really, see not so hard as you think..

Added thought:
There is absolutely nothing that says you have to do it as someone else, or as exactly you see it unless that's what you want to do. You still can achieve the swelling and the puff and the dimension so long as you have, in my thinking anyway, a starting point, hence all the chattiness on certain cloud formations.
Whatever "fits" within your style is great, balance to me is in everything, regardless of how it visually comes across, every successful painting I have ever seen seems to be very well balanced and in harmony, so detailed, abstract, or whatever colors one chooses doesn't matter so long as it has that balance and harmony wherever it is in a painting. And it starts within itself as individual components, so yes out of context might be a bit challenging and yet in itself there is a balance, so seeing that, I think, teaches us something as well, all nature in one way or another is balanced - she's an excellent teacher..haha That may be just me but it works too many times to just be "my" idea...

Sue - Those are great!!! I'm always serious... well most of the time and this was one of them , thank you for posting them and ah okay now I cannot resist....Paint one!! or a tiny bit of one.... please...

Hi Kathie, Thank you sweetie...hope to get to see what your practice produces, tho I'm sure practice is the wrong word you always do such wonderful paintings.

I'll be back in a bit...

Re: MTM Jan.1-14 Painting Clouds n Skies

Sue - 12x24 canvas now that's brave (to me)...what's a few little clouds after that decision...lol Cool can't wait til ya start and I get to see..haha

These are two of my screen whatyacall its..I'm so computer savy, anyway they reinforce I think what I was saying before I believe, take a peek, don't paint em just peek..lol The bottom one is so simple but look at the impact. Could be fun to turn a formation into a composition using just values of a single color!

Okay off to paint on my second panel...see you later.

Very good thread! Elaine, you make clouds look way too simple! I'm starting a piece next week that has some pretty prominent clouds in it. I've never painted clouds before so I'll be saving the link to this thread

Re: MTM Jan.1-14 Painting Clouds n Skies

Elaine, finally getting to my cloud lesson, had to work on a watercolor lesson first. Your lesson steps have been extremely helpful and I am taking notes.
Sue, your pics are great, hope you have added them to the RIL, I know I have them saved for future skies.
Glad to see others attempts and the variety of solutions.

This exercise has two clouds you demoed and next I'll try a full landscape. 6x9 canvas sheet.

Maureen, that's what I thought, and the only reason I put them in the thread. Spend too much time beating my head against brick walls as it is...

Re: MTM Jan.1-14 Painting Clouds n Skies

Wow I'm sooo excited..Hi Kim so glad you popped in and thank you, big smile that you like my attempts with this thread....I think clouds are simple it is we that aren't I hope you start within our remaining ten days so we can all enjoy your talent, and there such a good deal of that!!

Sheary that's fantastic!!! You got the volume and the depth whoo hoo and the motion, and you're gonna paint another, that thrills me, can't wait. Your's looks very friendly, I looked at mine and thought it looks like the boogy man.. Nice, nice job.

Mary you're quick..hahaha like the colors you're blending, yay can't wait to see you continue.

Graham wow I'm impressed!! Can I ask how long it took you? Just curious is all. Like the backlighting as well, very dramatic...clouds are fun aren't they?...lol Thank you so much for joining in so totally.
