Arrow DIFFERENT STROKES, A Forum Project:November '08

WELCOME TO THE NOVEMBER 2008 EDITION OF DIFFERENT STROKES

{Just a note before we begin ~
If any member would like to host a Different Strokes project, please let one of the Team know which month you'd like to take and we'll arrange it.}

Please read the guidelines below carefully.

GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a reference photo will be posted in a thread entitled "Different Strokes" .

Each member interested in taking the challenge will create a painting using the chosen reference and on the 20th of each month participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for discussion within this thread, finished or not.

PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 20TH OF THE MONTH.**

Artwork can be any size on any surface but MUST be acrylic.

You may crop, select parts or alter the reference in any way you wish to create your painting.

**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ...... that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!

At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.

Monthly references will be selected by the guides and moderators (but please note the additional comment above).

THIS MONTH'S REFERENCE –

Textures - 3 fruits. by Ponting

Have fun - the main object is to enjoy the process of creation

OK guys and gals - or girls and guys - or Ladies and Gents - here's the November challenge for you.
A single reference this month but plenty in the photo to get your teeth into - and it's been a while since we had a still life to battle with!

Get creating and have fun

Hi Maureen!

Still life is such a struggle for me; but no doubt exactly what I need to grow. An excellent choice in reference. Thank you!

Elizabeth

Good!
I hoped the folds of fabric would tie in with the MTM Classroom ....... I know Alison hasn't set glass in that, but the glass apple in this will be good practice ....... and, well ... orange skin could nearly be leather!!!!

BTW - Maverick's class on glazing an apple - in the Information Kiosk - could help. Look here

Well, I've never tried painting a moving bus!

But yeah, never tried a still life. With everything I've done, I've just kept reminding my self..."its nothing but shapes, colors, textures, light and shadows". So far that mantra has helped. Lets see if it works now.

That glass apple is neat!

The problem I have with still lifes is the blending involved. I wonder if there is anyone who doesn't consider this reference a challenge.

That's absolutely true - a good mantra to have!

Michelle - this will be a good one to add to your signature!

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES, A Forum Project:November '08

I recently did 3 fruit still lifes, so I'm not sure I'll take part right now. I'll play around with the image, though. Maybe I'll come up with something new and different for this one.
