Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

Cimdy - thank you for the info - I've merged it with your image post Very helpful

Colin - that's coming along nicely - the blending from yellow to red is good  - going from blue to yellow is more difficult I found
That's a nice glow of light on the sand - and with those grasses (which I have yet to tackle ) - try to make the line between sand and grass patch more broken into each other - that will make it easier when you come to paint them as final details.

I read somewhere that those tall grasses are 'sea oats' - could be wrong of course! The grass on our dunes is tough and sharp - cuts us!!!
In the cause of accuracy - I'll check that out!

Blue - I need help! What colours are your light-sand dunes at this time of day? Our sand is much more golden/darker than this appears to be ......... that's assuming your Beach is a similar colour to Florida's!

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

Maureen

the reference photo's sand appears almost white on my screen.....our sand here in NJ is a cool shade of light beige.....and of course down by the water line it appears darker, where wet.....sometimes I'll mix in a little antique white with buff titanium to show a sunlit dune......the already mixed 'sand' color I prefer is 'chamois/beige' from Lukas Cryl ......of course the sand contains micro-shells, black specs from coal from ships sung off the coast decades ago.....

yes, those Florida grasses are 'sea oats'.....same as along most East Coast beaches.....

hope this helps a little......'blue

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

Thanks so much Blue - I'll do what I can with what I have - I don't have Antique white or your sand colour

You can keep me right!

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

Thanks Maureen, April and Judy.

Maureen I will work on those sea oats. I checked what we have here on the coast and discovered that our Vancouver Island beaches are apparently under attack by invasive European and and American beach grasses of the ammophila variety.

The out of town guests are still asleep so I have a few moments to pick up where I left off yesterday. I love the early morning.

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

I bet those guests are awake now Colin!
Enjoy your weekend - catch up after they've gone

Thanks for looking in Howard and Loxley

I've done a bit more this afternoon -

- worked on the dunes but more still needed on the main one. It helps looking at it on screen - I think they need warming still more.
Started blocking in the grasses/oats.
The photo here is a little saturated I think and I think I need to lighten the sea a bit too.
I'll let it rest first

BTW - I really don't mind comments and suggestions y'know - it's how we continue to learn.
Those who know me know I seldom do landscapes and even more seldom do seascapes - so this is alien territory for me!

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

That's a pretty start Cem, I like the colors you're using.
Colin, that yellow is beautiful!
Maureen, I'm loving the colors in your sand!

I've started with the sky, looks a mess at the moment. I do like to make a mess. I put in a little bit of reference where I want the posts. Started a bit on the water as well.

There's a close up of the paint, I like thick paint.

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

Thanks, that thick paint is why I normally do miniatures. I go through an awful lot of paint.
Phase 2, working on the water and sands. Lost my fence posts but that's okay.

Whoa Virginia that is seriously gorgeous. Fascinating to see your work emerge.

Maureen - houseguests are up, fed, walked and out for a bit to do their own thing. Lo and behold Spouse has donated a water spritzer to the cause of Art without being petitioned to do so.

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

Colin.. really like the glow in the sand from the underpainting. i like the cad red in the sky.. Nice warmth..
Maureen that is looking gorgeous.Love the light on the dunes.
Virginia, love that luscious texture in the sky. Like the water as well.
Wish I had been a bit more patient and painted along as well . Anyways I touched up the water a bit.. did not spend much time as i wanted to get started with my new painting. Here it is.. is it better?

Re: PAINT-A-LONG anyone interested in joining us?

I think it's better with the darkened water Bhavani - don't you think it helps the distance? - the path takes us into the picture and then the eye travels all the way to the horizon

Would you like anothe Paint-a-long at sometime? Would it/does it help?
