Not done live…as I didn’t have my sketchbook with me at that time…I was attracted to the red cap, the reflected red on the mother’s chin and the way the boy’s body is turned while being held by the mom…

        charcoal pencil and red pastel.

Thats good Constance, youve captured a difficult pose very well and I like your minimum use of colour. I wouldnt have included the bottom of the table which seems to blend into the leg too much

Thank you so much Bill, I’m glad you like the sketch. The red of the cap was really bright in person!

Thanks so much David :) I did consider if I’d want to include the bottom of the table but as I really wanted to complete the figure, I went ahead with it…maybe I should darken the legs a little more?

With sketching if two objects are similar in tone I hatch both in different directions. I’d do a horizontal parallel hatch on the table leg to differentiate between the vertical hatching of her leg.

I am a big fan of this kind of subject- so it has instant appeal to me.
Really well done- just the right amount of detail.

Thanks for the advice Bill. I followed and will share it at the end. I noticed that I should also darken the dress that’s visible under the table….I’ve also added more strokes to the legs to darken them.

Bethany, thanks! I’m glad you like this kind of subject. Actually, I do wish to draw people that are on the streets….

                            Thank you so much Harry!

The changes helped, Constance. Also, it is a difficult pose well captured.

Lovely drawing. I agree the changes really help show the figure Constance.
