My first rose painting - not a study anymore

Oil painting

40x60 cm

5 june 2018

I used a photo reference ... so, is it still a study?

This painting is SO lovely and has such a dreamy mood to it. Your background is excellent.

This is beautifully done! I love the depth you achieved with the dramatic focus change from close to far. I also really like your composition in general with the three roses in three stages of bloom

I found your painting very beautiful.
Great brushstrokes to make up the petals of the larger rose.
Very cool!

Re: My first rose painting - not a study anymore

It ceased from being a study when you took it to the next level. That is my thinking anyway, which according to my wife is often worth about 2 cents.

Gorgeous painting by the way! I would be very pleased with the work if I had painted it.

Re: My first rose painting - not a study anymore

Congratulations on your first rose.
Nothing in nature compares to a rose.
Good work.
Here's something to think about for your next one.
Rose petals are translucent and the dark areas are never as dark as they'd be with an opaque subject.
