Re: Recent Efforts

Nice. I like the bold brush work! The first and last have a 'Hopperesque' feel. The still life is great in its unusualness!

Re: Recent Efforts

I really like the house in the sunlight. Good sense of light direction and I love all the various brushstrokes in the sky. It could have been a simple blue, but you've added so much visual interest with the texture and various colours mixed in. Well done!

Re: Recent Efforts

Thanks everyone, I'm just trying different things, it seems the style comes out different every time.

I'm at the laundromat, did an oil sketch on canvas paper, forgot my walnut oil and turps.

Re: Recent Efforts

You are very talented.

Do you find that the Kraft paper is soaking up the oil?

Re: Recent Efforts

Kathie, it sure does. The next step would be to use an acrylic-based gesso. It won't prevent the paper from deteriorating over time, but the oil won't soak through, either. I like the smooth surface that Kraft paper provides.

Edit: thanks for the kind words, but talent is a myth. There has to be a innate desire to get started, perseverance to see it through, the ignorance to make a move uneducated, and the courage to look at things from another perspective.

Re: Recent Efforts

Hey Tom, glad to see you back at the oils again. I really appreciate your direct representation of things, simplicity is a very powerful thing. I need to get out of the house and do some painting again, but it has been far too hot outside the past few days. Keep up the great work man.
