Re: Pelican! : WIP

Very impressive how much detail you're getting alla prima. And honestly, an inch or two an hour seems like a good pace to me for what you're doing- either way it's working well!

Re: Pelican! : WIP

Mike.. Thanks for your support.
Mark.. I'm not really painting square by square. I'm breaking it up into objects/hue/texture. Working dark to light in a small area that I think I can complete in a day. Trying to work wet in wet. Always trying to paint into a wet edge not skipping around.
Bill.. Thanks for your support.. I haven't really explained alot in this thread. Kinda just being a goof ball. My theories and explanations are in several of my latest WIP threads. I have theories about color.. Different techniques are just a means to a end and my techniques change from painting to painting sometimes. Maybe one day I'll put it all into a blog or post.
Derek.. I'm trying People seem to like this style from me more than my other stuff. I'm not sure the cost/benefit will add up though. That's what always pushes me to get faster. I don't know if there are people that will pay for a 100 hour painting.
Paul.. Thanks for following along.

Re: Pelican! : WIP

Iím seriously flabbergasted you can get that level of detail with a single pass alla prima. Truly fascinating! Canít wait to see your finished pelican.

Re: Pelican! : WIP

It looks good

The method you are using is similar to the DMP method Mark Carder promotes and the one I use (painting one pass, wet in wet). There are no issues with the level of detail you can get with this method IMHO.

Re: Pelican! : WIP

Thanks Meow, flabbergasted is what I was going for
Thanks Alexander.. it's acheivable just think smaller
Thanks Ptrkgmc grids are just tiny little canvases
Thanks Richard.. Kind of.. not really
Thanks Zoran.. all is well

Had a lot going on this week. Didn't get as much done as I wanted. I'm trying a little different method on the wing. Today I just started drawing in the darks on the wings using chromatic blacks, no white. I was messin up my values trying to work with white in such a small space. Maybe trying to go to faswt. So I will let the darks dry and then layer over. It's not really a area I need blended and it's easy to let it get away.

Re: Pelican! : WIP

I would like to look closely. I wonder how it should be replete in detail.

Waiting for the end!

Re: Pelican! : WIP

Thank you Bill, Joana, Derek and Alexandre. I'm pleased to have you all checkin out the Pelican!. I'm just taken my time enjoying the process. It's funny how much you can improve once you set your mind to a routine.

Almost done with the first pass. Next pass should go quick and easy. Some chroma and value adjustments and a little finer detail. No major mistakes so far.. Just a pinky dip here and there.
