first light

This one was almost to easy, dioxazine purple and gesso on a 9x10" plywood panel. I used some pearlescent tint medium to make the foam and clouds POP a bit more, it doesnt show well in the pic but it does IRL. I was intending one of my beachy scenes with dunes etc but something about this made me stop.

P.S. Theres something about purple that always challanges my camera, the closest I could get was in direct sun, everything else (shade, inside under fluorescent or incadesent lights etc) turned out blue

Very tranquil scene Doc. Love the way I had to look for the 3rd seagull too.

Re: first light

I enjoy purple, also.
Sometimes they paint themselves, don't they?

Re: first light

Hey Doc.
I grew up on the shores of Lake Manitoba.
Oftentimes on an early summers morning just before dawn, you could see the lake and shore just like this with the exception that it was all blue.
This painting of yours took my breath away when I first saw it.
Thanks for bringing back the wonderful memories.

Re: first light

Nice job on those clouds. Don't you love that pearlescent paint? Gives such a great look but as you've noticed does not photograph well.

Re: first light

Jon, your SO right! This was basically done in 15 minutes maybe another half hour or so in tweeks.

Vanilla, I do a lot of these purple pieces because they sell so well at the monthly artwalk, It seems a lot of women really like purple

Thanks everyone for leaving a comment.

Lulu, that 3rd bird is tiny but he shows up better IRL... the photo is kind of sun glared

Re: first light

Good call on leaving out the beach Dreamz. What a gorgeous colour and the waves turned out really well! I may have to try that pearlescent paint. Well done!

Re: first light

Hi Doc!

Excellent waves! It's not easy to get them to lap over so gently and naturally. I love the color too!

Re: first light

Hey Doc: This looks good! I love that palette.....You might want to try something I've discovered for birds. Give them a punch. Load a angled and tapered brush with the white color you use and the purple, Load white first both sides: Then load one side with other color. In one stroke: Stroke-Push-Stroke. You have to decide first if the white will be on top or the bottom. I do this on my seascapes after everything dries, if I mess up, I wipe it off.......
