First one as "Lefty"... I broke my painting hand...

I have my right hand in a cast at the moment. I am right handed - very right handed.....

But I can't seem to deal with not painting. I can't write, I can't tie my shoes, but I picked up a brush! The muscles in my left hand and arm were cramping from the effort... Acrylic dries fast when I can move quickly...

So - I am being bold and sharing with you my first painting with the 'wrong' hand... I think is encourages me to keep trying, if nothing else!

Acrylic, 16x20. Lake Superior

Wow, very nice! Work slowly at it... ya don't wanna overtax the left hand/arm now... but I think you'll come along nicely, and who knows? This is very pretty... you might start coming up with a little different style than you're used to....

It's so serene....

wow! I am impressed that this is done with your non-dominant hand!
it's a lovely painting regardless of which hand you did it with.
Best wishes for a rapid healing.

Ouch! I hope you heal quickly. In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing! Looks great. It's sooo smooth.

Nice job, especially with your non-dominate hand.

I've been trying to use my left hand more for things like mousing, since I got Golfer's Elbow.

Re: First one as "Lefty"... I broke my painting hand...

Thanks for your replies everyone....

The difference between what is hand skill and what is in my head were really revealed by the experience. Things got easier when I stopped behaving with my 'right hand mind'. For example, my brushstrokes smoothed out when I reversed my strokes - right to left instead of left to right. I also didn't have to fight the horizon slope that I usually do...

Very nice. I would feel so backwards working with my left hand.

Nice work Michelle, especially with your other hand. My what a mess I would make with my left!! Its bad enough with the right! Very serene feeling that you achieved with this one.

Lovely piece Michelle. I have only done a little work with my left hand and it was a pretty wild experience. I am SO impressed with the control you have shown...very smooth and peaceful.

Just goes to show, you don't need your right hand to paint; you only need your head.

LOL, that's exactly how I feel Michelle!

I'm not sure if you know but there are a few artists that can draw/paint with both hands and the work can be startlingly different. One or two illustrators have two distinct markets for the two styles of work.

Best of luck for a quick heal on the painting hand!

Einion
