Re: DIFFERENT STROKES -- Our Forum Challenge for FEBRUARY 2020

ColinS, good luck with all your goings on, Sound like your neighbours were not so lucky with their insurance. Well done for taking the extra to protect you from such a time as this.

I hope you manage to give this challenge a go.
I can say, after researching and trying and doodling, this is no where near as easy as I thought it was going to be.

I have sketched and painted ( in water colour) just to test out 2 different scenes. I use water colour because it is quick and easy.... but also, because the shadows are flat, the colours for 1930 are muted mostly, and Lines , Lines and Lines. I now think I am ready to go for it in acrylics.

I am really glad I have had the opportunity to try the deco style poster art work, opened a book of lettering, and tried that too.
Well that was most of my today well spent.
It could all still turn out rubbish but I thank you for the challenge which has forced me to try something I perhaps would not have.

We haven't had the rain that the rest of Aus is getting. We get drips and occasional drops.

Cheers
Merri

An interesting challenge! I've decided on a landscape and must still figure out the words. Is it fine to add the wording digitally?

I would like to add the wording digitally too, so the painting is more versatile...

I have no objection whatsoever.

Merri, it sounds like you are challenging yourself and pushing through. I agree that the line became very important in this style of 1930s art. Line and sometimes the angle of perspective that was used to create a sense of excitement.

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES -- Our Forum Challenge for FEBRUARY 2020

Good morning all,
I have been thinking about this challenge and have found a scene I would like to paint. It will be something very different for me and I enjoy the challenges in this forum - thanks!

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES -- Our Forum Challenge for FEBRUARY 2020

Well, I am thinking once this is finished, I will re-do it in gouache on poster board and maybe it will look more "posterish". Flat painting with acrylics is not my style, so I have a bumpy mess! I am so used to making texture, not the lack thereof!

Good for you both. I still can't get at my paints which, while rescued from downstairs, are now wedged in a corner of the kitchen with the clothes drying rack and a couple of boxes of flotsam and jetsam. It isn't looking promising.

Don't worry ColinS, if you can't, then that's it.. you can't.
No good worrying about it.

Just as a by the way, would it be easier if you used Posca pens for a while. They are acrylic ink, and as the challenge says, any acrylic.

Quote:
Posca Paint Markers are acrylic paint pens packed with high-pigment, light-fast, long lasting ink. The ink is waterproof, fade resistant, non toxic, with vibrant colours. Posca's can be used on metal, wood, glass, plastic, plaster, canvas and colouring books.

https://www.posca.com/en/

I am guessing you have an equivalent in your country.

Cheers
Merri

Maureen, sounds good... you are joining in. yay.

I don't know what is with the link, it works for me, and I am wondering if it is because it is Australian. I don't know. I am sure they are not the only brand of acrylic ink pens in the world.

Cheers

Maureen, how about the below, will it open for you? Looks like they have a dedicated site in the UK. And Amazon.uk also sells them, among others on line.

I haven't bought any yet, but they have gotten my attention due to some people here on WC who have used them! They seem nice!

The link worked for me. There are other brands of paint pens as well, just not sure if they're all acrylic. Could probably find reviews on Youtube.
