Odin2: Beautiful painting! Good contrast!

Konfuzd: No, the stain I use is acrylic too. Doesn't hurt the paint at all, as long as its well dry before painting. Even oil stain doesn't affect the painting if it good and hard. If there's a question, you can always seal it with acrylic sealant first. I use acrylic, water based diamond clear Varathane. I find I can always paint on it without problems.

Very nice Odin. I like the dark look...The trees and general mood of a quiet spot comes across really well. Your use of light and dark is wonderful. Perhaps the hat is a bit big?

I've gotten back to this project. I rebuilt the sails to give them dimension.

Lots more work to be done!

Thomas, the subtle blending of colours in your sky is gorgeous!

I decided the shadow was on the wrong side of the sails, so I moved them...and gave them character. Itís a terrible photo...glare...off exposure...

Re: WOYE: What's on Your Easel? 2020

If I darken the sails and add color...that color must come from somewhere. I darkened the sky - sunset (red sky at night). Now I have to rebuild the sails again.

Like my civil war soldiers, this is a project I am using to play around. No pressure to complete it or get it right. Iíll let it sit for a day and see how it feels.

The pic is slightly darker than it is here...

C&C always welcome.

Thomas

Re: WOYE: What's on Your Easel? 2020

Currently sat on my easel is this.
Not sure of the size... 36" x 18" box canvas I think.
The start of my attempt at a rainy dusk street scene from distance using a bokeh type effect.

The composition isn't great, I know, nor are most of the edges but still a long way to go so no C&C required yet.

Had to look up that word...bokeh. This looks good. Maybe some red tail lights going the other way?

Re: WOYE: What's on Your Easel? 2020

Just finishing this. Might add more contrast or brighten a few places, now sure.
12" x 12" on canvas

the lines in the painting are straight. its the photo that's crooked.

I think I'm going to call it "Escaping". I'm not big on fancy names.
