Whoa Ron! You did a great job capturing a difficult position and translating it so well onto canvas. You used very, very little detail and still got the positioning very well translated.

Ron, thanks for commenting on my works.

There's lots of movement in your painting knife work, you caught the pose very well. The colors, balance and pose support the drama.

Rosta, lovely.. The movement is apparent, so is the intense look on the faces.
good clean clear palette colours.
Very well done.

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES: Our forum challenge for January

As promised, I am back, although late to the party. Sorry for the glare from the clear coat and I promise myself to never paint on matboard again. Here is Merlin on his throne before and after my"fix up" - hope it is OK to post 2 shots. If not, will someone please remove 1. 8"X10" on dark green matboard.

Co-worker's dog.
The only ism I achieved might be "Dogism ".

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES: Our forum challenge for January

Well, Babrbara Merlin turned out very well sitting there on his perch. I really sense the cold in the scene. Speaking for Maureen, I will say not to worry about the two images.

Very nice, Imogene. I feel the cold in this one too. There's nothing as cold as metal, and the old truck just seems frozen in time. So glad you joined in this month.

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES: Our forum challenge for January

bcjpaints - the scene is lovely. Happy Pups sitting on the log and clearly on his daily walk. Lovely subject, Beaut work.

ImogenThomas - You have portrayed a very cold scene. Even the truck looks forlorn. Well done, great work.

Cheers
Merri

No takers for the February challenge? Last chance!

If not, I'll take it on and I even have an idea brewing...

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES: Our forum challenge for January

bjcpaints, that's such a cute pose, Merlin is quite the magician managing to stay up on that stump. Nice job with the painting.

Imogene Thomas, Nice depiction of winter. You can even apply that song of Frank Sinatra's to the truck. It looks a bit like the winter of it's life. Nice work.

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES: Our forum challenge for January

I got an urge to do one more. This one is Expressionist. Think Edvard Munch. I've often incorporated elements of the expressionist movement into my figurescapes. This one deals with one of the things that scares me: Driving in snow.

It's 14x10 on stretched canvas.

Oh Dorrat! I like!
I can feel the dread of the human feeling like his life is endangered by the possibly skidding car! Definitely feel Munch too!

I hated winter driving, not by me but all those idiots who would speed by and then slide into the trees or ditches.

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES: Our forum challenge for January

Barbara- love your dogism! I hope he likes the winter climate.
Imogene - cool scene! I'm sure that the vehicles have problems running in that cold weather at times.
David - good one! Glad I don't have the problems of driving in that beautiful, wet snow!

Re: DIFFERENT STROKES: Our forum challenge for January

bjcpaints - Dogism You really have captured Merlin's expressive face. Nice.
Imogene - that looks really cold, great palette. Good job.
David - I like it. I feel the agony, I'm glad we don't have to drive in snow here.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments on my effort. I still think using a palette knife is like buttering toast with a builder's trowel.
