Kathleen

Am trying for a more painterly feel, and experimenting with terra rosa as a base. Oil on canvas, 11 X 14. Rounding out those facial turns to our right was a bear! Would appreciate any comments or critiques. Thanks for looking.

Re: Kathleen

Some beautiful soft graduations of colour happening here. Well done!
The shadow under the nose doesn't read quite right- maybe too light around the nostril? would need to see the ref to make sure, though.
I like the cooler colours too.

Re: Kathleen

Lovely! I agree that the nose does not feel right, but the painting as a whole is marvelous.

Re: Kathleen

Great work indeed. The nose should be fixed as well as the shadow next to the ala(wing of the nose). If I get picky, I would try to fix the gaze.

Re: Kathleen

Thank you, and great observations, I fixed the profile because it was too far out and now the nose is starting to look better. I'll work on that shadow, I'm not sure what was meant about the gaze??? Thanks for taking the time 😊

Re: Kathleen

I am very picky when it comes to the eyes. If you put your finger on her left eye, and look at the direction the other eye is looking at, you will see definitely she is looking at you. When you put your finger on her left eye the left eye appears to be looking away from you.

Re: Kathleen

Thank you for all your comments, and the very helpful critique on the eyes. I will remember to use that check for this and future works.

Re: Kathleen

Getting to the point of calling this practice done, and time to move on, learned a lot, thanks for all the input, cheers.

Re: Kathleen

I look at your first painting, to me it is better. In o portrait to obtain the roundness is difficult , you succeeded, the change of color, many nuances.
The other features are easy to correct.

Re: Kathleen

Well done! Young pretty girls are a challenge that will test your skills.

Even though many don't look very much at the noses of others, it's a significant part of the portrait. I feel it's just a touch too long and wide- if you even improve hers, there wouldn't be objections.

Re: Kathleen

Beautifully painted! It does seem something is off with the outside of her nostril on our left.
