I'm a fan of Dick Blick. dickblick.com

Years ago, when I had a car, I would shop at their store in Carle Place. Now I shop there online and try to limit my ordering to once a month. They have a very thorough selection and provide information about each product online. Note: there are some errors in this information. Their customer service is excellent and you can always call them for information about their products. Plus, their prices are less than or equal to other stores.

It's helpful to get their 544 page printed catalog. Ask for the one called "Materials for Artists." They have other catalogs for specific users, such as educators.

As an example of their customer service, one order came incomplete. It was missing a particular watercolor paint. I called them up and they sent it to me. Just like that. I had one frustration with them. I wanted to return a product I bought in the store. They said I couldn't mail it in: I had to hand deliver it to a store, any store. Every company has its quirks.

Good luck!

Re: online stores

Do you mean to sell off of? I have been using shopify for a few years now. That's my own art site, but I have also tried Amazon Handmade, dailypaintworks.com, fineartamerica.com, saatchiart.com, and Etsy. I've always sold way more off my own site.

Re: online stores

I use FASO. E-commerce is built-in (PayPal). I've been very happy with it.

Re: online stores

I also use Shopify. Very easy to set up and had a lot of powerful selling tools.

Re: online stores

Re: online stores

As for me, I am a Shopify fan. My first online store was built with BigCommerce. When it came to launching my second ecommerce, I decided to use Shopify, and it was the right solution. Both BigCommerce and Shopify are self hosted ecommerce builders (where you don’t have to manage hosting separately ).

Re: online stores

How come you switched from BigCommerce to Shopify, Ann? I've sometimes considered BigCommerce for my non-art shop is why I ask.

I decided on Big Commerce. So far so good. Thanks for all the comments.

Re: online stores

The best one is the one you are willing to do marketing for to drive customer traffic to your work. People can't buy what they don't know about.

Re: online stores

I like Square. I use it when I sell at art fairs and it is free to set up. I can integrate it into my existing web page as well. see here, http://www.417art.com/buy-print-s.html
