Yes, welcome to this forum!
Wonderful portrait!
I think!
He is kind of scary, lol!
His eyes are really intense.
What brand are your sticks?

6.5 x 7.75". For me, with the bars, that's pretty small. You've done really good with them.

I just sold 2 paintings, both 9x12 on canvas paper, done with the bars!

Re: The Oil Stick Party - Join In!

It was a free gesso board that came with a small set of R&F sticks. I decided to try to get a feel for them using it since it would not be a great waste if I ruined the board. This is mostly using the Shiva sticks. The R&F seem like higher quality pigments (the colors seem much more vivid) but they are a bit loose on the surface. I want to try those on a canvas. I think I like the Shiva right now for working on harder surfaces like gesso board.

I have been gone for a long time, but I finished a couple of paintings including the portrait from above.

This one is oil sticks, oil, cold wax medium, and crayon.

Your portrait has lovely texture and an interesting composition with the colors.
Your abstract is intriguing. Doesn't the oils+ cold wax medium add up to oil sticks?

Re: The Oil Stick Party - Join In!

Oil and cwm do essentially add up to oil sticks, but mixing paint from a tube with the cwm gives a much looser feel to the paint. It is easier to cover large areas quickly and gives a very smooth finish when layered.

The portrait turned out great - I really like your palette. Beautiful abstract - I like the lines and the hint of lettering in there. Great work!

Nice to see you back here. Hope you post more of your work soon.

The abstract one is my interpretation of the three of swords card. If you look closely at the top left corner, you can even see a Roman numeral 3.
