Playing around - first Claybord

So this is just me dinking around on a 5x7" board - it started out as a value-scale to get a feel for working on the board (way different than the paper, just as you all said!). I don't have any ink so I played around with some dilute acrylics on the feathers/hair scraps.

On the butterfly wing I got a very neat iridescent effect in the dark parts by scratching very lightly - I'm curious if this is a method people use, as it can't really be captured in a scan and it's been awhile since I've seen a real, live scratched board.

We're going in to the big city of Denver next week so I hope to find some white board (it looks very fun to try but Blick doesn't seem to carry it) and restock on some other things!!

C&C always welcome - though this was more just random fun than any particular purpose .

That's a very cool image on its own!! I love the eye, that's

The scratching without scratching thing you talked about, I've used it but I find that when I varnish, it tends to mostly disappear.

Looks great Doc! Also looks like you were having fun Dick Blick does sell the white boards, they are called claybord, not scratchboard when they are not inked. You can get them also at Hobby Lobby, but a bit pricier.
