Awake The Giant

It has been awhile since I have posted as I have been tending to some medical issues for my daughter so it is great to be back.
I am a big cat lover for those that know me and of course tigers with all their beautiful markings have always been a favorite of mine.
This large sleepy cat appears to have been woke up from a deep sleep...perhaps it is meal time. lol ( yes stay well back)
Such beautiful creatures.

This is acrylic on canvas.

Awake The Giant

Re: Awake The Giant

This is lovely. I particularly like the dark dense shadows on the left and the lighter 'air' on the right. When i was younger and started working with acrylics I often came across those who considered the medium somehow inferior to oils. But I had been an admirer of the work of Robert Bateman and therefore believed that anything is possible with any medium if used well!
Bateman talks about not painting grass or hair but the air between the grasses - and this is why I am reminded of him. I also love wildlife and paintings which show the 'character' of the creature which you have also done. Thanks for sharing and hope your daughter is well now.

Re: Awake The Giant

Thanks so much Eoghan, always my pleasure to receive your comments. Yes I too and an admirer of Robert Bateman for the feel he is able to portray through his work.
I use various mediums and feel the same about acrylics....you can attain many effects through various methods of application. Have a great weekend coming up and thanks again for the support about my daughter. It will be a long road for her.

Wonderful work.

That's funny, when I started using acrylics I thought, Robert Bateman uses them, they must be good.

Re: Awake The Giant

Beautifully painted and a unique angle on the great beast.

Love the whole thing, but your handling of the humble straw is exceptional.

The Robert Bateman Foundation Gallery is in the old B.C. Steamship building on the harbour in downtown Victoria. If you are ever in town, you might enjoy having a peruse.

Derek
These big cats just have so much character .... thanks again my friend Looking forward to your next piece.

Michelle
That is funny that you mention Robert Bateman...I was at a session with him about a year ago. Great talent and one of the pioneers to bring attention to wildlife paintings for sure.
Have a great weekend.

Thanks so much my friend....it is good to be back. It has been a long road.

Hey Colin
Thanks for the comments regarding the painting...yes straw and grasses can be challenging for sure.
I will be in the Campbell River area of the island in the Spring of 2020 and must check that out. Thanks for the heads up and of course the wonderful comments. ( PS I will bring the bear spray as well..LOL)

Re: Awake The Giant

Absolutely stunning work! Beautiful work on the tiger, but its the straw that struck me as marvelously detailed and so realistic! Thanks for sharing!
