WIP Venom FanArt

Hello everyone,

I am really not sure if I am in the right place. But honestly I am a bit overwhelmed of this huge webside and my English skills are a bit limited. So I am sorry if I do something wrong.

But I want to come to my topic why I am here: I started working with alcohol markers. I am using the Winsor & Newton Brushmarker.

I am looking for some good instructions/explanations to work with markers like color picking (for blending), blending and mixing and maybe advice for a good paper... I use markers together with my graphite and/or coloured pencils so the paper should be suitable for them all.

So this is my current piece of work. In the beginning I started with a graphite background because I wanted to do a graphite piece ... than I added colour to his tongue...and yeah.. I actually don´t know what I am doing here. I just did what came to my mind in that moment. Experimenting. The eye is completely done with markers, the tongue has a marker base layer with coloured pencils on top.

I hope there is someone here who has some tipps for working with markers or can recommend a book or maybe Youtube channel. I can only find people who use markers for comic or Anime stuff but I prefer a realistic look and I am sure... markers can "do" realism.

Hi Jessica this looks awesome!
I'm looking forward to seeing where our go with this.
As for advice experimentation is one of the best teachers. Just learn what works for you. I don't use markers so I can't give any advice, but you look like you do great work with them.

I'm afraid I don't work with markers either, but this is looking great so far!

When learning something new I go to YouTube and watch whatever videos I can find. Try searching there for realistic marker art.

This is what I tried before I signed in here. From time to time I found single videos with useful content for creating special structures but no real tutorials for beginners..only for comic styles. So yeah, seems I have to go through it by myself.

This is the current step. (There are a lot more steps on my Facebookpage.) I am nearly done. (With a lot trial and error...) I need to do the teeth and its gums and highlights need to be done. I think I will need another weekend...

Re: WIP Venom FanArt

This is a discussion forum, isn´t it? Is it always like this... everyone "klicks" but no one talkes/writes. Or is it just my art? I was looking for other people for a good talk, discussion and sure for exchanging experiences with markers. In fact this forum is somehow "dead". And this really makes it hard for me to go into conversation with others. Yeah, I could go through all the other threads and can write something but I have the feeling that no one will react no matter what I will write...

This forum is sometimes very quiet, sometimes not, but I was hoping a little "new blood" would liven things up a bit.
I really like your artwork of Venom!
It is well done and very striking.
One of the parts I liked best was the tongue and mouth with the nice changes in color as it is seen through the webbing on back.

Don't give up on our Fantasy and Sci-fi forum or on WC!

I will give it a try. In the internet we have plenty of time.

Thx. I have finished that drawing yesterday. Yesterday I wasn´t sure about showing here, but after your words...let´s see. Or maybe Venom scared all to death and they bolted.

Very good! I don't think you need to worry about finding tutorials, those markers work well for you.

Please do come back, it is very quiet in here. I don't do much fantasy or scifi work myself, just always enjoyed fantasy art.

It looks great!
Very cool, I think the darker background really makes it very dramatic!
