Re: Basic 102 - Class 9 - Skies & Clouds
Wonderful tutorial, thank you so much for all the work this must have required. I hope to be able to have a go at this over the weekend.
This thread is certainly worthy of a five-star rating!

Re: Basic 102 - Class 9 - Skies & Clouds
ok this is harder than i thought lol..... im going to love this class though as landscapes so don't come natural to me lol....
i have never drawn with these grade pencils so im not sure if i did it dark enough..
hmm my main question so far is.. when you draw the clouds should you have a light source direction worked out?
ok here is my first attempt... i will def keep practicing tomorrow!!! i think i need lots of practice lol

Re: Basic 102 - Class 9 - Skies & Clouds
Well done for being the first! The sky looks nice and smooth. My guess would be that light source direction would be important; at least, that's what I've been told in watercolour class!

Wonderful tutorial Diane. Thank you.
I couldn't resist playing a little with the first, even though I'm at work and it is on lined paper! lol I will start in earnest at home tonight or tomorrow.

Naomi - you are a quick study! Meaning you picked up on it very quickly!! These are excellent!! To answer your question...ABSOLUTELY!
The ones you have right now work beautifully as light wispy clouds. But as you start to create more dramatic clouds you will want to create more depth and dimensionality to them. In order to do that, a light source will be important as well as shaping and shading those puffs of white.

Yay! The time is here!
Thanks Diane! Fantastic tutorial!
Here is a lil practice. I think I could use some more value variations. The original is a lil darker than this.

Oh my, I just got up, checking right away to see if the class was posted... and it is in full swing! It seems everyone is reenergized in the new year...
Diane, thank you sooo much, I have no idea where you find the time, it is so much appreciated.

Re: Basic 102 - Class 9 - Skies & Clouds
Hey Diane,
Good to see you here! That was a great tutorial. I'm knee deep in alligators just now so time is tight, but I will be giving this my attention when time permits. I always found landscapes in oils to be lots of fun and not terribly difficult for me ... portraits were impossible. Now that I'm working exclusively in graphite, portraits are coming very easily while landscapes elude me. Sigh. No shortage of things on the ToDo list ...

Re: Basic 102 - Class 9 - Skies & Clouds
Diane, this is a brilliant and wonderful tutorial! Thank you for doing this for the forum. At the moment I am in a mentors program that is taking up all of my concentration but if I find a way to do both I will definitely be here.

Re: Basic 102 - Class 9 - Skies & Clouds
Hi Diane,
I'm going to follow this with a great deal of interest. I've toned skies, I've suggested hints of wispy clouds, but I've just realised that I have never attempted a cloudy sky. Time to learn something new!

Re: Basic 102 - Class 9 - Skies & Clouds
Naomi- I love your whispy clouds!
I just love your technique Diane. I am finishing this one up. I think to do a lil more lifting w/ the blu-tack yet and any other critiques would be appreciated.
