Begonias Final- Oil
I made a simple setup near my workspace so to better paint small still life, and in this case, to paint flowers. The goals with this 6x8 were to be better in all respects: design, clean and true color/value, drawing, and simplification of complex forms like the flowers to capture character, not all detail.
At the end of the thread is the finished painting which has some small corrections and edge work.
Lots of learning accomplished, and I do like this one-
Happy Fourth of July to All!

Re: Begonias- Oil
Very nice Ken. Design is what attracts me to everything now days, I am always trying to design my arrangements of color, edges, focus, values, all of it. I feel like it makes my paintings better than just copying what I see, there is more decision making involved and I feel more connected to my finished work when I am done as well.

Re: Begonias- Oil
Thank you Delo! Design will attract attention, to be sure. There is much to consider with a painting- I fall into all detailing very easily, and many are not necessary.

Re: Begonias- Oil
This is really nice. I like the texture captured in the leaves and the flowers are beautiful.

Here is the final painting- a few tweaks, corrections, and bits. Just needs a signature!

Glad you stopped in Derek! I was just painting it all as observed- will be doing a few more of these studies after some work- from life is the best!

Re: Begonias Final- Oil
Thanks Jessica- I appreciate it! These do have interesting leaves, and after too much fixing on the last, more care was given to the design.
