A glaze dragon? That I would like to see.

That would actually be a good technique to use on a dragon. It would make for very rich colors.

You can make a monochromatic painting of anything, dragons, cars, ducks, oranges, whatever you'd like. You can also use glazing on top of a picture with color or only use glaze on a certain part. Say for instance you did a dragon laying on riches with some red velvet showing under him, you could glaze just the red velvet to get that deep rich effect.

Glazing does take a good bit of time to me though I do like the effect of it. I tend to paint too loose for a glazing effect to make sense doing.

What surface would you use for glazing? I have only tried it on panel. I do use a lot pf washes on canvas.

I'm doing mine on canvas, but I prime my canvas with Gesso mixed with Modeling Paste and sand between layers as I like a silky smooth surface.
I can't see paying the $$$ for the linen canvases so I make do with cheaper ones and enjoy priming them while watching TV.

You ever try using panels? They come pre-sanded. I oscillate between the two.

Re: June Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat!

I'm using a canvas board for the glazing project. I don't think it matters if there is texture.

I do kind of enjoy doing the glazing, just can't help thinking that if I painted in colour first it would be done already.

I think I just had a good idea. I'll use the scan of the acrylic as a background and digitally add a dragon lol.

I use both panels and canvases, I even use illustration board or watercolor paper at times. Whatever is at hand. I alternate between liking smooth or toothy surfaces.

Lavender, you can glaze on top of a color to give it a richer tone. You don't have to limit yourself to greys or browns.

I'm on early today, we are supposed to get some pretty good storms tonight. It'll be a relief, my garden is in serious wilt mode.

When I am doing sailing ships, as I am now, I thought I would prefer the smooth surface of panel. But I was wrong (I frequently am) it is a LOT easier to do rigging on canvas, it gives you a dotted line effect, keeps it from getting too eye-catching. Live and learn or crash and burn, I always say.

Well Virginia, I hope you got a nice rain and nothing worse than that.

And yeah, I know, but I thought it would make Fede happy if I went for the complete monochromatic underpainting lol.

It's the 20th here already. I thought of a combination of realistic with fantasy in this one. My take on the monitor lizard I call ' Taking my dragon for a walk'. A4, oil pastels.

Nice, a Komondo dragon

Here is mine, a fan art of the beloved Puck webcomic. It is entitled, "Dork, Oberon just asked for one flower, not the whole bush!" Dry pastel on rough sketch paper, 9 1/2 x 11"

tuscanny cool "Dragon" and a different take on the challenge!
Great texture on the skin, and I love the pose and tip of the hat of the man, so fun.

Suzie I like the shy pose of the dragon and the bashful look, so cute.

So here are mine.
The first one is acrylic on canvas panel with a dirty pour for the back ground.
This is Fire and Ice-Cream.

The second one is an acrylic glaze one on canvas panel.
The charcoal under painting and the final after glazing.
