Re: Pelican! : WIP

Thank you Paul and Joana

Not done yet but I finally got the canvas covered. I painted in the pole today and signed the painting. I plan on making another good pass over the pelican. Until I get tired of feathers anyway

Ellis, you've gone beyond photo-real with this. It has a richness and a personal touch.
Really nice. Now don't mess it up with too many tweaks.

Re: Pelican! : WIP

thanks for following along all. Since people seem interested in the process I thought I would show the next pass. Which I've worked on the head and the top section of the sky. Now that the canvas is covered I can really tell where I need to adjust colors. And work in a little more detail. But color comes first.

Re: Pelican! : WIP

One heck of an impressive painting Ellis! Well done. It may have taken some time to complete but it probably would have taken even longer using the "under-painting, get the values right, going over it again and again method" usually associated with getting all that fine detail and great sense of realism.

Re: Pelican! : WIP

Incredible! It's really beautiful work, Ellis. I think there are competitions dedicated to paintings of various animals and fowls; you should enter this when done as it's clearly going to be a winner. Once you win a few, you may be able to charge what you want. A square inch per hour sounds pretty fast for this level of detail and finish. This is a photorealistic piece that looks better than a photo! Bravo!
