Repaint: Autumn Garden (26022020)

I'm trying to learn how to use color like Laurel Hart.. so here is my 1st attempt at it..

she said that in the 1st wash, she dont really think about any local color, she just use whatever color she feel like it to create a colorful gradient... so I did the same thing.. but unlike her painting, my result is kinda weird looking..

any advice is welcome.

this is something that I has painted before.. so here is how the original painting looks like...

here is the source photo

I really like the new one, Calvin: The colors blends on the small trees, the lightening of the distant trees and the shadows.

I think you are covering two extremes in the two approaches and I think the optimum would be somewhere in the middle. This is just my humble opinion.
First glance, I like the first one better, but both show nice colors and well shaped trees (which I almost never accomplish). Thanks for showing us your experiments.

Interesting to see the two different approaches...thanks for sharing them. I like the redo the best. If it were me, I might try working on connecting the shadows & I really like the left fg shadow in the ref pic. I wasn't familiar with Laurel Hart so looked her up...nice stuff! Great job...

I like the first one very much, the shadow on the right is missing in my opinion.
