Re: Self Portraits join in the fun!

Finished my self portrait, or at least I’m tired of working on it.

Re: Self Portraits join in the fun!

I was recently given an on-line course in portraiture and I am working my way through it and as a practice I did a self portrait.

Its in acrylic on canvas board (20 x 25 cm). I painted it using the Zorn palette, just Cad Red, Mars Black and Yellow Ochre.

I like the drama of the bold colours, Dominika!

Nice work, Ron- does not look like a portrait beginner!

Re: Self Portraits join in the fun!

Thank you Bethany.

Yes I've done a few portraits in watercolour but found the media too unforgiving, so now I'm trying to move to acrylics. Hence the course. The problem I'm having is blending; easy in w'colour but not so in acrylics.

Re: Self Portraits join in the fun!

Still practising, still feel like I'm failing, but I'm starting to see some improvements. I started this painting by looking at myself in the mirror, but holding that silly pose whilst trying to paint was perhaps not ideal lol. In the end I took a selfie and worked from photo.
Still practising with the Zorn palette, if you have constructive criticism I would love to hear it as I'm keen to learn and improve. Painted on primed paper with oil paints. Cad red, yellow Ochre, ivory black, titanium edit t limited palette.
