Re: hike in the mountains

The texture is amazing. Did you actually adhere pieces of slate to the canvas?

Yes I found it, washed it and then used gel. Do you think it's too busy?

I think it lood great - and where else would you find 'busy' if not at a water scene like this? I think its wonderful.

I would make the trees on the l/h side a little bigger though, and throw in a few shadows from them maybe, to sort of balance the tremendous energy in the foreground.

Great 3 dimensional effect! I agree about the trees on the left, they look a bit cut off on the top.

I don't think it's too busy at all. I love the depth too.

Re: hike in the mountains

I really like this, and I don’t think it’s too busy, either. The muted tones tie it together harmoniously, and the real contrasts fall only on the white splashes; otherwise, it might have been to busy, but it’s not.

Here’s the only little thing that keeps catching my eye: At bottom right, there is a white patch that looks like a figure. Is this white water, like in the rest of the work, or is this actually a figure who is doing the “hiking”? Perhaps I am the only one who sees it, or perhaps it is intentional.

I really do think this is a very attractive piece.

Re: hike in the mountains

Debi, my first impression was "It's alive!" My eyes always go to the waterfalls - imagining the constant flow of the water. The rock formations bring depth to the artwork - great effect. Love the concept.
