Another portrait

A self taught amateur painter who does not paint regularly. have done this portrait after a gap of 2 years from a pic.
Please offer your comments or suggestions about it which can help me improve my work.
Would love to see critique.

Regards,

Re: Another portrait

Overall, very nicely done. Good likeness, nice skin tones, pleasant background. My only critique would be that there are too many hard edges. Consider softening the edge between his shoulders and the background and maybe the the edge between the neck and background on the viewers right side. Without changes you still have a wonderful painting.

Re: Another portrait

I would add that the hard edges on the shirt are distracting from the focus on the face.
So- either sharpen the definition of the face- especially the mouth. or soften the edges of the shirt.
It is a fine portrait!

Re: Another portrait

Very nice portrait! The only thing that strikes me is the eyes look a tiny bit small. But if you don't change a thing, it looks great! Good likeness, even the chin dimple. The shirt & background are nice too.

Re: Another portrait

Hi,
I have tried to improve upon the hard edges of shoulders and the shirt, besides some other points mentioned earlier. I would request the feedback on the adjustments done now.
Thanks and Regards.

Re: Another portrait

Nicely done! The highlights can be reduced a bit and still be effective. Though subtle, understanding the planes of the head would help clarify your forms and give him more structure. A small bit on the hair- rather than being so consistent, there is variety in direction and shape.
