Talking P&I forum challenge: December

Apologies for the late posting - I can only blame a wretched cold these past two weeks!

Welcome to our forum challenge for December in which we continue our encouragement to Draw from Life!

The aim is to capture our own personal and individual moments and share them here on this thread!

All suggestions/subjects/themes come from those who participate!

** As you post your own drawing in this thread, please then also suggest ONE subject/topic for next month. One entry = One suggestion for the following month .... another entry? - another suggestion!

By the end of the month we should have a range of ideas from which you can choose – and please do feel free to discuss any of the suggestions raised: who knows, you may even start keeping your own private list for future ideas!**

One important rule -Entries must be at least 75% pen and ink in any colour - and wash or colour may be added.

Your topics for this month are:

some kind of Holiday food.

perspective drawing from the viewpoint of a mouse

Holiday decorations.

a fully decorated snowman,

Anything from your surroundings that suddenly inspires you!

Happy Christmas!

Re: P&I forum challenge: December

I meant to add that I'm glad you're feeling better!

December is such a busy month. I'm finally done running around so I finally have some time to get back to my pens. I just received a package with ten new tips, woohoo! 😀

I have over 200 ornaments on my tree so I'll be drawing a few of them! That perspective from the viewpoint of a mouse is a great idea too.

Re: P&I forum challenge: December

Thanks Virginia ... still have the virus but much better!

Been busy all day trying to get house cleaned so I can make a mess putting up the tree!

Also been pondering buying one of those glass pens ... are they worth it?

Re: P&I forum challenge: December

Managed to do a small drawing in ink from a little pixie or elf that I have. Its from life but I had to change the colors because I didn't have the right colors - its all done in ink. Next time I will do the outline in ink and use watercolor wash.

She looks lovely, Tresgatos. I'll try and get a move on so she will have some company over Christmas😊.

Re: P&I forum challenge: December

hey all!

I'm new in this forum. Just snooping around Wetcanvas tonight and stumbled in.

this challenge sounded like fun so here we are. this guy should cover the first three topics! Sakura Pigma Micron pen on cheap sketch paper. about 4 x 6". it took exactly one period of hockey to finish.

inking isn't my strong suit but we're working on it!

Hi Mike! ... glad you found us - I could have directed you here ages ago!!

Your drawings are always good, so the medium won't make that much difference!
I like this cheeky little chappy - looks like he's pinching candy canes for his tail!

Do please stay with us each month - and make a suggestion for next month's list!

Re: P&I forum challenge: December

Mike, that looks great! It's very charming.

Tresgatos what a lovely fairy!

Maureen, I think the glass pens are worth it. You can use them in a variety of ways and I like how they hold the ink. Mind you when I draw I hold my pencil drafting style, where I constantly twirl it a bit to keep the edge sharp. With a glass pen, that's kind of what you need to do to keep the ink from all sliding down at once.

I bought a bunch of new nibs that came with a very greasy coat on them. That's pretty normal and normally I burn them for a couple seconds to remove it (it makes the ink slip) but I read that you can also use nail polish remover so I'm going to try that out. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: P&I forum challenge: December

Thanks Virginia - I may just indulge myself!

We used to find a bit of saliva did the trick to clean the new nibs!

Re: P&I forum challenge: December

thanks Maureen and Virginia!

i have only done ink work occasionally in the past... not enough to actually get good at it. i did participate in Inktober this year... although i only got half way through. i discovered i enjoy the inking process, but i get bored if i do the same thing too many times in a row!

thanks for the info on the glass pens... i was curious about them.

for a future theme, how about 'the tropics'? something to warm up all us cold climate folks in January.
