Painter/musician here, or musician/painter I should say!
I've played music since I was a kid, was classically trained as a pianist, but at the age of 17 I discovered traditional Irish music and got into it big time. I play now uilleann pipes (traditional Irish bagpipes) and bouzouki…which made me move to Ireland where I regularly play trad sessions and gigs...unusual for a Spanish guy, isn't it?
I paint and draw a lot, but I've also gone through periods of writing…not too serious though, some short stories, and unfinished novel…music and painting are my main passions though, I found very interesting that most of people in this thread seem to be painters/writers, and there aren't many musicians.
In my experience, playing music and painting complement each other wonderfully. One gives me what the other one can't. Playing live music is spontaneous and ephemeral; you can be playing a fantastic session that will remain in your heart for the rest of your life with no physical record of it, then there is the big social element of playing music with other musicians…painting in the other hand allows me to sit, relax, think, interiorize ideas, feelings, moods, and take my time to portray them in a composition…
It's great to hear about all your different passions besides painting!

Antonio
