Copy of Girl with a Pearl Earring

Girl with a Pearl Earring, 17.5 x 15, oil on birch, after Vermeer

The only thing left to do is glaze the background (the rest of the paint is in broken color). Would you paint a green background? Vermeer originally used a green background but the background was painted black upon restoration.

Very lively and spontaneous painting. I would say you could paint the background very dark muted green perhaps.

Thank you so much. I might go ahead and glaze a very muted green over the background, maybe close to the muted greenish color in the coat. Makes me wonder what the original looked like.
