My oil pastels have been sitting on my shelf for a long, long time. Inspired by a youtube video I had been watching I thought I might try them again.
I have a box of Jaxon oil pastels (I think they can be considered student grade) and some neopastels.
I had bought some odourless mineral spirit for blending my coloured pencils, and as I prefer a more painterly look I tried the OMS with the oil pastels.Ulla

It’s fun to explore, try different things. I like using the mineral oil too. Mine came from the hardware store.
What’s your next painting–have you started one yet?July 15, 2019 at 11:37 pm #855203Great going, Ulla. Good to see you painting again.

Nothing left but smoke and cellar, and a woman with a black umbrella...July 16, 2019 at 8:40 am #855202Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Yes, I had been on WetCanvas some time ago. (I think it must be three years or so ago).
And thanks for mentioning the Sennelier brand. I will definitely go and buy some of these (I’ve got a coupon for Boesner which is a big art shop here in Berlin). I’ve got two neopastels – and they are beautifully creamy as well!Ulla

I love the few Neopastels that I have – I agree with you that they are extra soft and creamy. Senns are definitely the top of the line in that regard, but somewhat costly (at least in my part of the world!). One of the things I love about oil pastels is how easy it is to work with so many different brands. In general, the harder brands are great for the bottom layers, and the softer brands like the Neopastels glide over them for top layers.
I hope to see more of your work!
