Another small still life. 5″x7″ gouache on watercolor paper.
Trying something a little less realistic.
C&C welcomeSeptember 11, 2019 at 11:05 am #878222Closer to Cezánne I think. The looser strokes and pattern colors do help it look life like to my eyes. Gary

Yes, I like how Cezánne gives his objects that
dark outline. I think it makes them pop a little more.September 16, 2019 at 6:12 pm #878219Very nice! And I agree that it has a touch of the Cezanne feel to it.

September 23, 2019 at 12:15 pm #878220I like this style. (And I’ve always loved Cezanne.) Would you mind sharing your approach to this? Was it just leaving the outlines in place, or did you look at the objects or apply brushstrokes differently as well?

My intention was for a loose, simplistic representation of the objects
but after painting them I felt they needed something else.
The dark outline was an afterthought.September 26, 2019 at 6:55 pm #878221Thank you. I’ll have to give it a try.
