This is my second attempt of this portrait. The first one was a bit looser, but it was damaged when I had a ink spill. :( I’m reasonably happy with this one, and I enjoyed doing it. The color of this on my monitor is close, but a bit cooler then the original.

I used only three colors: ultra marine blue, cadmium red light, and new gamboge from M Graham.

Nicely done. I would be SOOOOOOO upset if I spilled ink on a finished painting!

She is truly very beautiful. And I’m impressed with your limited palette.

You’ve helped me with my palette for a fox I’m working on, too. Gamboge and cad red—that must be her hair color. I don’t have any cad red on my palette but I do have a few reds and one or two are close, so thanks for the help on my fox, too. :)

Wow, lots of comments in a short time :) Thank you Kate, Ellen, Frank, Jim, Ernst, and Jan

Kate. I was not a happy camper when I spilled the ink. The painting was about 3/4 done when it happened.

Ellen The hair color is gamboge and cad red with just a hint of UMB to make a red brown color. Without the blue the color is to orange. Another color that might work for your fox is transparent red oxide. (PR 101)
