Looks great to me too, Irfan! Glad you've eked out a little time to get back to scratching. It's good medicine (pun intended).

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

Thanks everyone!!

I am finding it hard to find time to do art with the degree I am doing at university, but hopefully I can still achieve the aims I have set myself for this year.

Looks great to me. Hector's wool suggestion is a good one for the breath but here's something to get you really enthused. That Diana Lee woman seems to know a little bit about scratchboard (well, that's what we tell her ) and here's a piece that is all sandpaper. If you look at it, I'm sure you'll see it's perfect for what you want. It's an incredible piece.

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

i dont know i would go for the fiber glass pen or brush? oppose to sand paper or steel whool. but then again im like a fanatic with control and always tend to use something much smaller. i do like the look the sand paper gave me one time but manipulating it wasnt for me. then again i didnt experiment that long.
as far as the tiger, i love the pose, looking over that shoulder. i think id have fun with that

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

Thanks for the great comments and suggestions on how to do the breath.

Diana's piece was a great help!

I am debating on whether or not to put it in or not.

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

Need some help and advice please!?!

Current update.

At the minute the tigers face still needs highlights as does the teeth and jaw. Oh, and those white spots are the beginning of the snow.

What I wanted to ask was does the tree behind the tiger look okay, the lower part still needs some more work the upper part is complete.

The other branch on the left and the leaves still need work but I what I really wanted was some suggestions to put on the right side of the board infront of the tiger to even out the composition, I have no idea. Leaves, grasses, dead branches or another tree trunk? All help will be greatly appreciated!!

I don't mind if you think parts look off, let me know, since ampersand can take quite a bit of abuse and I really want to do this piece justice!

All comments and critiques and suggestions are welcome!!

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

i dont think you would really need much on the right. i dont know its hard to say because already i can see and imagine that roundness of the belly and i really want to see what you do with it. i dont know if your going to work more with the background to the right of his head but it mirrors nicely with the stripes (maybe thats why they call it camouflage. lol)
but if you do really want something, i would make a branch with a few more leaves (cuz i liked the job you did) going up starting from about the same distance from the right side of the board to the edge of the right side of the tree, If that makes any sense. and then have the dead branch come maybe halfway up in like an opposite diagonal kind of like how you have the tree in the background? ether way its looking grate

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

Irfan, this is looking fantastic. I would maybe add a tree or two smaller than the one you have, texture them, then subdue them with diluted ink. You might then add a hanging leaf or two. Try laying a piece of tracing paper over you pic in this area and sketch in a couple of things to see how they might look. Just a thought, may be way off.

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

Thanks Ma Jiesi and Harold for your wonderful advice, I really needed another pair of eyes on this piece as I don't want to rush it. I did a photoshop mock up and by adding more stuff to the right I felt it further made the composition look off so I am just going to finish the body. If I then feel it needs something, I suppose I can always go back in with the black repair ink.

Thanks again!

Re: 'A Last Goodbye' - Tiger WIP

I think finishing off the body before deciding is a wise idea. I think once you have those stripes in place, that corner will look fine. Although that twig with the leaves is really well done, it bothers my eye... If you add more branches or twigs in the foreground and put snow in as well, I think (personal opinion here) that you run the risk of making it too busy...the viewer's eye will be bouncing around all over instead of slowly taking in that magnificent beast.
This composition is wonderful and really doesn't need a lot to enhance it.
