Scratchy Corner 18th - 24th April 2011

Hey everyone!!!

I have been a little inactive and hope to comment on everyones new work soon but at the minute my time is mostly taken up for my up coming exams!

I wanted to ask, I am thinking of giving some sort of workshop and demonstrations in my local library for scratchboard. I just wanted to ask if you think I am accomplished enough to educate people about scratchboard and teach some techniques? I know I have not won any awards or anything and that I am only 20 but I feel that it would be nice to educate some more people in Scotand and those in my area about scratchboard.

I also wanted to share with you my most favourite shot I have ever taken!! It was taken during a recent trip to the zoo and it is of the black jaguar there.

I can't wait to do it in scratch and if I do it, it will be large, I am thinking of around the 18x24 mark!

WOW! Irfan, that is an amazing shot and it will look great on scratchboard especially the size you're attempting and with your skills - you're not too young to teach. You are not alone at being "inactive". I haven't been around much either lately but hopefully everything will return to normal around my household. It's been quite hectic the past few weeks.

Stunning photo Irfan! I wish any of my area zoos had black leopard or jaguar as I have wanted to do one in SB for a long time! It will be a strong work from you I am sure!!

I do not think you are too young or inexperienced to teach! I say go for it!!

I am busy working on getting all the photos from my dog show online. Using a new program for hosting the images. Not sure I like it 100% but I already spent too many hours getting them on there to change now.

More than qualified .... wow on the photo...WOW!

I didn't end up getting to paint this weekend. Murango cave was a stop. I tried to talk my way inside with easel and ink...couldn't make it happen. They said they might be able to do it. But, would need more notice. I might give it a go. Maybe when its too hot to paint outdoors...ill make the drive again. I did take some pix here and there....ending the weekend at the zoo. I thought I ran into Cathy but, the Wart Hog was just out and about.

Keep it small too Irfan. You'll knock 'em dead!!! (and then being the doc-in-waiting, you can revive them ). No wonder that is your favourite photo. Gee, is there anything you don't do well??

Irfan, I may be a newbie in this forum, but I have looked at enough of your gorgeous artwork to know that you are more than qualified to teach a workshop, and your age doesn't matter. I agree with what's been said - keep it small and simple and you'll do fine!

Cathy and Rod - You two are nuts. Almost made me spit out my coffee when I read that. Good comeback Cathy!

Beautiful day here today, even if a bit warm. Tomorrow it should be the same again. Time to do some more yard work I think.

Oh, and forgot to say - STUNNING photo Irfan! Can't wait to see you scratch that one. It'll be a beauty!

Yes, Irfan, you should definitely go for it! Look at it this way, you know more than your students will, so you have something to teach them. Beyond that, you're very skilled at what you do! I think you'll find that workshops and demos are fun and everyone learns something, even the teacher!

Gorgeous photo, too.

I agree with everyone Irfan - go for it! You have the qualifications - your work speaks for itself. And your age will get other youngsters involved.

Love the photo. I so wish I had a zoo close enough to visit.

Cathy.... it was the overwhelming odor and the missing Hubble Space Telescope sized lens on its camera ( the Wart Hog had a simple point and shoot )
