My Dad

Here is a portrait of my Dad I have been working on forever it seems. This is being done thru the D/S forum's Classroom-Class 33-Realistic Male Portraiture.
I had some trouble knowing what the uniform looked like as I was working from a 2" 1951 newspaper clipping. Luckily I found a pic of the dress uniform he would have been wearing at a local museum here. This is my rendition so far from this photo from the time when he recieved his Distinguished Service Cross. He is gone now over two years, but he will be my hero forever.
I am presently working on his clothing going left to right and more work on his mouth is needed yet.
Not the best photo-but those are my camera skills.
.5 Mech pencil, approx 13"h X 9.5"w

Re: My Dad

This is indeed very very nice! An accurate portrayal of your father. Judi, you've done a wonderful piece here and you should be very proud, not only of the drawing but also of your father!

Re: My Dad

Judi - you know what I think of this but I shall say it again! Just wonderful!!!! With the mouth I think just make the lines straighter on the upper lips, less rosebud like. The flag is just superb too - such a great touch for the background.

Re: My Dad

Judi, its looking brilliant.
You are right about the lips, they are the only which aren't quite right. Its just the top, they are slightly too full and rounded.

The eyes are just amazing, they really shine life.

Re: My Dad

Wow! This is great work, especially from so tiny a ref. You definitely have the likeness there. I can't wait to see the finished drawing.

Re: My Dad

Judi, your labor of love is paying off nicely... all of your hard work is so evident in your beautiful rendering. Check the construction of his right nostril. Nicely done!

Re: My Dad

Judi, There is some really , really nice work in here. The surface of the flag got me good. The contrast between to smooth tone of your dad's skin against the old flag for which he fought with its light, wrinkled presentation is breathtaking. Also, the dynamic values of the portrait overal are terrific. Whatever time you have invested in this, the result has been worth it I'd say. I can do a C&C if you'd like. I am not just going to kick it out without bringing it up first becuase this is your father and there will certainly be special feelings attached.

Re: My Dad

Hi Judy I seem to have missed this on Class 33. But gladly I found it here. Everything on it turned out beautifully.
