Hi Everyone! Thanks for your good wishes and worries. It’s been a long day and we were really, really tired when we finally arrived back home.

Firstly… our news is quite positive. It’s such a good thing to be able to write news that isn’t dire.

Driving to London on the 401 has been dicey at best because of all the construction. Luckily, even though traffic was heavy, we made reasonably good time.

Parking in the building at the Hospital was a challenge. We ended up on the 5th floor and thank goodness, we were able to take an elevator to the ground. We walked over to the main entrance of the Hospital and rode the elevator to the 10th Floor where the Dr.’s office was dark and empty.

A Dr. on that floor approached us and said that our Dr. performed patient visits down in the Clinic on the 4th Floor. Down we went. The elevators, btw, were probably the first ever invented.

We met with the Resident on our Liver Team who did an extensive History. All Ted’s records were online and naturally confirmed what we told him. Then Dr. Brahmania stepped in after going through the collected History with us and made a series of recommendations.

Ted’s diseased liver is functioning at a level that does not require him to have an immediate transplant. His kidneys are now functioning at 60%. All his predictors are just slightly above or below “normal”.

The Dr. has tripled the diuretic and added a blood pressure med. This will, hopefully, facilitate a decrease in ascites buildup. It will be monitored by regular ultrasound procedures. And the varices scopes will be scheduled regularly to ensure they don’t burst… the blood pressure med will help with that.

IF the diuretic does its job and the fluid gets controlled, Dr. Brahmania plans to work with the Surgeons in London to repair the three abdominal hernias that are causing Ted so much pain. :crossfingers:

The Dr. has instructed Ted to “graze”, eating no less than 8 meals per day. He must consume 1.5 grams of protein for every kilo of his weight and at least 2100 calories per day. This is a problem for his insulin management and now we’ll need to consult with his endocrinologist to get new instructions. The heavy protein diet will begin rebuilding muscle mass. When Ted’s strength begins to improve, exercise will be added to his regimen.

We return to London every 3 months for follow up. The Doctors will be following Ted closely because, yes, that 2 year clock is still ticking. But we have a better plan.

When we returned to Chatham, we had to run the revised prescriptions to our pharmacy because they make up the blister packs every Tuesday evening. We’ll pick up the new med packs tomorrow.

Ted did eat a little dinner, and he’s been sleeping ever since. This whole emotional and physical day exhausted him completely.

I’ve spoken with my Sister, McKenzie and our Niece in Maine. I’ve written to the two older Kids. I still have to talk with Ted’s Sister, but I’ll let him do that tomorrow, I think. Finally, his best friends, Wayne and Rick… just keeping everyone up to date is like returning to work!

One final curiosity for us… Dr. Brahmania is considered one of the best liver specialists in Ontario and his waiting list is more than one year. Why we were able to get pushed to the head of the list is nothing short of miraculous.

There you have it. I think I just might be able to sleep tonight. G’nite Wash Buds! I’ll see you in my tomorrow. :grouphug:

Thank you Char for some positive news. We have known you and Ted for a long time and you are family to your wetcanvas friends. So good to hear that you are getting first class attention now and Ted has a detailed new regime to aid his progress. I hope it soon shows good results.

After the plumber’s visit yesterday I feel more settled and slept normally (for me).

Today is Probus lunch, I have to get back home quickly to meet with the British Telecoms engineer who is going to fault check our installation, then tonight we have a function at the Springfield Nursing Home – a talk by a talented local sculptur followed by a buffet meal and entertainment.

Thanks again Char for the update

What good news we have this morning! Char, like everyone else I was worried when you didn’t post yesterday. I hoped it was because you were too exhausted, which sounds an odd wish for someone, but I’m glad that was the case. Contacting everyone does take a while, so thank you for fitting us in.

I slept well again last night, partly because we stayed up late to watch “The Great British Bake Off”. I’m really enjoying it this year.

I have a place on the John Harrison workshop next month. The details were sent out yesterday and by the time I got home from flower club last night there was only 1 space left.

Today at art class we’re “taking a line for a walk”. My drawing needs to improve so hopefully this will help! It the quiz tonight and tomorrow I’m out at the theatre with my group of close girlfriends.

Love and hugs to Char and Ted, and greetings to all who wash up later.

That’s such good news Char! I’m so glad it all went so positively! :grouphug:

Glad to hear you slept better, Doug, and I hope your visit from the BT engineer brings some answers, and resolution. I had problems with my fibre broadband last year when my connection (40+ mbps) suddenly went back to pre-fibre speeds (< 2 mbps). After a week of troubleshooting checks by my provider they finally arranged a BT engineer visit. After doing all the usual line tests etc. which showed there was nothing wrong with line itself, he figured out the problem and solved it in less than an hour! It turned out that the demand for fibre broadband was so high in my area that BT had decided to put in an additional street cabinet to serve our street. When they moved all the fibre customers to the new cabinet, they forgot to move me, and left me connected via the original cabinet which they'd reverted to standard speed broadband. The fix was as simple as plugging me in to the right board! Not much sleep last night - went to bed last night and couldn't get to sleep, then awake at stupid o'clock this morning. I've a busy day ahead today - appointment with the practice nurse at the surgery this morning, followed by work, and then a dementia awareness course this evening. Greetings to all, those yet to visit, and huggles to all who need them. :grouphug:  . .

Good morning all and good news from Char & Ted 😊 👍👍

Overnight rain here but decent day in prospect with some sunshine. Ann and our gardener had a good day in the garden yesterday clearing and planting borders, re-positioning plants and having a general tidy up. Bulb planting next. Wish I could do more to help but balance & bendingis difficult. However I supplied mugs of coffee & biscuits to the workers and encouragement! My job is lawn cutting where I can hang on to the handlebar but grass is very wet so may have to wait. We are buying a new 40 inch TV for the lounge to replace our 32 inch set which is going to the study on a wall mount. Anno domino and all that and the eyes are not quite as good as they were. Most TVs seem to be huge these days and we cannot accommodate larger than 40 inch. In any case we don’t like it to look like a cinema room! Hopefully the higher definition and brighter screen plus a good soundbox will help us ‘golden oldies’.

Must get up and enjoy the day. The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness is upon us and soon the clocks go back ……….. dark evenings…. ugh!

On that cheerful note have a good day everyone.

                    Mike

Doug, the workshop is on 2nd November in Heswall. The full day is now full but visitors might be able to come in the morning to watch his demonstration if those places haven’t gone.

                        Got to go, BBL

                            Good evening friends <3

Busy day for me. Dr for a script. Hair, she braided it again, I love it. Lunch with Tania cancelled, she got piled up with work.

Went to Capalaba, to the closest JayCar store to me, because JB Hifi told me they sold 3 meter usb cables. They don't. (I must remember to phone first) However, it was a nice drive, and I got to look around all the electronic stores out there, right up my alley.

I have found Reece birthday present. A camouflage 1:16 wifi fpv rc car with VR Goggles. He will love it.

I know I would love it. :D

I had a beautiful piece of Red Emperor for my lunch, grilled.

                            Good Morning all,
It is 5:15 a.m. here in still dark and raining Oakwood. This is very welcome rain because of our drought conditions. :D

Char, That is a wonderful way to start the Wash with such good news.

I had an exciting day yesterday as well. The implant dentist worked about an hour in my mouth extracting the broken tooth, then grafted materials onto the bone to strengthen it and get it ready for an implant. He stitched up the gum when he was finished. I’ll go back in two weeks for a check up on the healing and possible stitches removal.

Later in the afternoon, we went to our regular dentist to pick up a tooth guard he made that I can put in when we go out in public. It has a fake tooth where the old one used to be so there is no big hole in my teeth when I wear it. :D

                            to all,

                            SYL,

Glad everything went well with your dentist(s), Sylvia.

Mike – I know what you mean about large TVs! Do manufacturers not think that not everyone has gigantic rooms to put huge TVs in/not have large expanses of wall space to hang them on? I’m looking for a new TV for my bedroom, and have only a very limited amount of space, so the screen size needs to be a specific size to fit, as width-wise it’s a struggle to fit anything in and I need to have the TV at an angle, partly so I can see it from the bed, and partly just to fit it in. Practically all the advertised TVs are huge though, and if you ask an assistant in a shop where the smaller TVs are, they look at you as though you’ve developed an extra head!

Well my day’s going well so far! I managed to make it to my appointment on time, and amazingly the nurse wasn’t running behind time. She managed to do my cervical smear test relatively quickly, which is normally a long, painful process with me and my misbehaving body (having them comes second on my list of medical things I really hate, just behind dentists). Then, just as I was about to leave, I mentioned that I’d noticed that there was a poster in the waiting room about flu jabs for under 65s. She said she’d do mine while I was there to save me going back again for the officiall “flu clinic”. :)

Got home with enough time to have a coffee and a quick look around WC before starting work! :D Fingers crossed for the rest of the day. :crossfingers:

                                Off to work now!

                                    Evening all…

So good to hear some positive news Char. Boy, you and Ted were due some.: heart:

In my last week with a pretty intensive charcoal portraiture course with an artist from Holland, Juna Biagioni. Have to say she is very professional in the way she teaches and gives feedback.
This last week’s project has blown me away. Have just been watching the 1st video demo with my heart in my mouth, was almost coming together several time then she wipes over in watered down geese and charcoal! Like watercour with translucent layers…beautiful result.

The wheels are in motion here so it,,’s head down and tail up from now on. Will keep my outside artroom going as my bolt-hole as needed and always’ always’ line dancing on Tuesdays can never be interrupted!

Will be mia for a while, but I will be back, eventually.
Don’t run with scissors and please please don’t think I am Strayan…definitely no drought here Sylvia…Kiwi here, loud and proud!:D:lol::lol:
