Look Away Collage

Name: LookawayCollage.jpg

I want to branch out into collage much more. This is my first effort as a standalone finished piece apart from my sketchbooks. It is 14x17 work, I am calling look away. I used construction paper and images I found in old science books.

I had to keep reminding myself that nothing is sacred before I cut up the book. Does anyone else have this problem?

C&C is always welcome!

Hi Dave! I like this collage, it gives out a message for the observer to think about. I like the clean lines of this image as well.

Yes, I was the same when I first tore a page out of a book!

Interesting piece.

I had same problem tearing up a book. So, I decided I would get my books from the Hospice resale store. It helps our local Hospice, & the books sell for 50 cents for paper backs & $1 for hard cover. That way I don't feel so bad about ripping it up.

I also felt that books were somehow sacred. I ripped them up anyway, but always felt kind of bad about it. However, years later I worked in a library for 12 years. Seeing the enormous quantities of books that get thrown out (donations that smell like an ashtray, out-of-date reference materials, best sellers that are past their prime and we have 3 copies...) helped me to realize that using them was giving them new life.

Cool composition. I cannot help but be reminded of Frodo and the eye of Sauron, for some silly reason.
Comments and critique actively sought and much appreciated!
