Re: WDE Feb 17- pastel sunset and carver
I like both of them. I would never have tried the carver. Really great crop on both of them. Keep playing with the pastels.

Re: WDE Feb 17- pastel sunset and carver
Don't put yourself down, Bonnie. You've got a wonderfully atmospheric beach painting. People who want realism will settle for a photograph but your picture has emotion. I particularly like the little figure on the far left (as viewed). It so puts me in mind of skimming stones with my kids ( and now grandkids).
Nice work on the carver - particularly the hand formation.

Re: WDE Feb 17- pastel sunset and carver
Pastels are difficult until you are comfortable with them. I like my Senn's the best, I think, but Pan Pastels are a learning experience for me, and there's nothing like a set of pastel pencils to get you going (then, fill in the color with the larger stuff.) I also love my Rembrandts and NuPastels rock as a first layer. I guess I love them all, but these I use the most. Getting used to Art Spectrum which is a special double set including extra lights and extra darks. The Unisons and others are tucked away together in a large box which I don't use. It's too confusing to have 1,000 colors in different places.
I think the first is a very good painting which conveys the subject and the atmosphere. Most important.
Your watercolor is also very good, especially the workman's hand.

I agree about the atmosphere of the sunset -- nice feeling from it. The carver is great! Good job on both.

Bonnie, Don't be too hard on yourself. I agree with what Joy said. Great atmospheric painting. Shows the mood and it's beautiful!
I think you are the only one brave enough to tackle the carver. I'm so glad you did because it turned out magnificently!
Thanks for joining us this week!

Beautiful job on the wood carver - lovely watercolour. Great reflections and silhouettes in the pastels.
