Public Art Opp -What design to use?

I have the opportunity to paint traffic signal boxes (see here for example http://www.urbansmartprojects.com/tsbs/ )

However I have so many ideas and am just starting off with doing on box and in case don't do more, I want to put the best of me on show.

Hubby suggested why dont I just use a design I have already painted????

That sound like less stress and enough for coming up with a design and knowing the skills I need to paint it because I have do it before -sounds reasonable and hassel free. So why don't I just choose that then?

Well i thought about this as an opportunity to create something new on a different 'canvas'. I just anything I do would still be in my style. I thought about doing some form of landscape image/ birds.

I dont usually do abstract but if I am wanting something to stand out then, doing something not resembling surburban scenery is the choice to make.


Thoughts? Should I just go with a painting I have already done and replicate it with slight modifications to suit or start with a whole new fresh idea?

Could you try doing a few different trial runs (on substitute materials or in a sketchbook) and then decide which you want to put forward?

I think more people would do advance sketches and chose the best ones.

I really like the one on your facebook page with the tree and the birdcages. It's simple effective and the colors are sharp too. I think it would go well outdoors. I think that sort of design would be appealing.

go with your gut. I know as an artist I hate to repeat myself. draw up a few different thumbnails and go with one.

I went with what I felt comfortable with...what type of painting is me. And this was good, because to do something largescale like this that has 3 sides to paint, well on the job modification of my design was required to suit. The experience was great. Read all about it.
