first plein airs of the season

The weather has been awful, so my first ventures out were in a PA event, which ironically was when the heat-wave hit. My muse wasn't really with me, but I sold 3 out of 4 so that was ok. Both of these are acrylics on board, 12x16 and 8x8 and I forgot to take a picture of the oil pastels one.

Thanks for looking. C&C welcome ; I might do studio versions later.

I like it! Very sunny and warm, and that vine is everywhere! Lovely flowers, too.

Both of these are great. I am truly jealous. Plein air is tough and these are very well done. Gary

Re: first plein airs of the season

I love that old cottage in the 1st - The red/brown roof is complemented nicely by surrounding greens & I like your use of foliage to break the 'lines' of the building.

The 2nd displays a lovely red undertone which unifies the artwork. Intriguing also is your treatment of that grassy fg. Those warm/cool brushstrokes depicting decorative patterns of flowers & shapes work terrific - Nice control of greens throughout.

Both very appealing & Well done on the sales !

Michael.

Lovely mix of greens Wendy, with warm red, and blue/violet flowers, and a 3 out of 4 sales. Very good.

Re: first plein airs of the season

These are both very appealing pieces as mentionned with nice complementary colours in the first and the wonderful use of varied greens make these great.
You really captured nice depth in the 2nd piece as well.
Great job and en plein air nontheless....just super.

Re: first plein airs of the season

It's so good that you were able to get out for some plein air, Wendy. Both are beautiful paintings and congrats on the sales! The cottage has so much rustic character and if you ever feel like doing another version in your oil pastels I'm sure you could recreate the mood.

Re: first plein airs of the season

Thank you all for those encouraging comments! I'm not especially comfortable with acrylics, but they are fast. In fact, at the end they were drying on the way from brush to panel, and they were mostly Golden Opens plus retarder. Dunno how you painters who live in perennially hot climates do it!

Thanks Derek (and Arnie and John ). I've discovered that green gold plus white make a sunny grass color that I like.

Thanks, Matthew! This is lupine season. The blues in the photo are not very accurate though.
Thank you, Michael. The soil here is very red and I like to use it in an underpainting.

Donna and Gary, thanks so much. It was good to get outside to paint.
Heather and oldmnartist, thanks for those very kind words!

Re: first plein airs of the season

Nice work! I particularly like the colors in the second painting. I really need to get out of my studio and paint outdoors more often. It really sharpens your skills.
