WIP: House Sparrow in Winter

I just started this last night...12x16 140lb cold press Arches with Winsor Newton artists watercolours. Based on a photo I took in my front yard this winter. CC expected and welcomed!

Oh you use the "instant gratification" method; looks very promising indeed, the little sparrow emerging from the sheet of Arches...

If you do, my feeling is make it in fairly diffused colours and not too dominant or too dark. What a great photo!...and you painting is coming on fine.

Ha, yeah...funny thing though...when I'm using pastels I block everything in first.

Beautiful photograph, I think you need the background esp to show off that white chest on your fluffed sparrow. I do think I would tone down the contrast of the white/dark areas behind the pine branch. The value change is a bit distracting to the eye.

Great start so far, hope your having fun with it.
