Re: Faith
Beautiful interplay of light and shadow! I love the sky, so smooth yet with a nice modulation of tone.

I was thinking about this. Generally skies darken towards the top ( zenith is it?) If you paint them all the same colour they can look flat. This doesn't look flat at all, though the tonal changes are very subtle and do not graduate. Maybe it's because there is some blue in the shadows it works. Curious
I really like it alot.

Re: Faith
It is beautiful; it looks like a cross between a minimalist painting and a Georgia O’Keefe.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Faith
Very soothing to view. I love the simplistic values in the painting. It is one I would not get tired of viewing.

Re: Faith
Hi Dave,
This is simply wonderful, a very dramatic, high impact piece. Stark contrasts work brilliantly and the sharp angles accentuate the contrast in this. The little patch of reflected light on the wall is a gem. This is very, very good.

The 'rules' for skies are different at night.
This looks like a night sky, with a full moon at the horizon, to me...

The perspective on this is looking up, therefore the sky that is seen is pretty well an overhead sky and at its most intense blue with little graduation in value as would be seen in a normal horizon. The intense, uniform blue is what makes the contrast all the greater and really enhances the drama of the work.
