I want to do one of these one day - they have something similar in Canberra Zoo I think. I have to ask though - was it scary at all??

Just slightly scary as they came into the enclosure but once you realized they just liked being stroked it was very easy. The harder I stroked the more they seemed to go to sleep and purred. The tail was super heavy. I lifted it and stroked right down it then let it go.. THUMP! On the table.. But didn't startle the cat at all. Like all cats they wanted to do as little as possible. Just sleep. The keeper took the pics and one small movie that has the purring.. I'll see if I can upload it somehow. You won't believe how loud.

I just did a Google search for cheetahs purring and found this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=drq_ww7Ytzw - that is seriously some loud purring right there!! Puts my Abby to shame, and she purrs louder than any cat I have ever had I love the bit in the video where the cheetah rolls over, so cute!

I think I read somewhere once that other big cats like tigers and lions make purring sounds, but only when exhaling... not like domestic cats and cheetahs that purr when they inhale and exhale. :-)

WOWEE Faminz! I never knew that the zoo did that, again WOWEE... I would have pestered my parents when I was young if they had done it then! I LOVE big cats, but I don't know I would have the courage.....
