Alone a Warrior Stands

The wounded warrior stands alone with only his staff for support.... and only a memory of what he once was.

Re: Alone a Warrior Stands

I quite like your warrior. Although I'm not sure which one do I prefer more... I think I do like the background at the top in the second one better.
Very nice.

Re: Alone a Warrior Stands

The second one is definitely much stronger. It gives the figure a dignity despite his dilapidated condition that he can rise above the horizon line of the wall. Plus, the dark shape frames and draws attention to his head. Additionally, the warmer background makes the eye move around the composition more naturally.

Great piece!

Avani and David.... yes, I think I rushed to judgement on the first image. The second is the stronger of the two.

Thank you both for viewing and posting your comments.

I like the first one and I'd like to see the gradient to black at the top just to see. The steel gray really sets him off. I also like how your wariors are starting to take on a sculptural feel almost 3D.

If you have not dipped your toe into 3D maybe you should.

The ones I can recommend for ease of use and sculpture like capabilities are FormZ, Poser, and Maya on the high end. Most illustrators develop form and lighting then migrate to photoshop but you can do so much more than that.

With your textures, lighting and other skills you will be amazed at what is possible. 3D does not have to be technical but I find the high end a little laborious for a right minded brain like mine.
Awesome work as always.

Another excellent image in this series. The second version is my favourite as well. Awesome!

Re: Alone a Warrior Stands

Hi Barbara.... I gave 3D a very limited try last year... perhaps I did not give it a fair chance but I felt it just wasn't for me. The work flow is too structured...

Hi Rick.... glad you are enjoying the series.... there are just a few more left to post.

Re: Alone a Warrior Stands

James I like these both but I would consider renaming the first to something like Guard duty or something like that. The background reminds me of a medieval dungeon prison setting. The other one is more powerful under your chosen title.
