Hi guys! A belated happy new year to you all
Been working on other writing and art projects for a while and haven’t been oil pasteling for the last couple of months. I’ve missed them!
First male nude of the year, ‘Kitsune’
Sennelier oil pastels, except for the Mungyo extra soft black, and the Neopastel cream, on Clairefontaine Pastelmat, approx 9″x13″, no reference.I messed up his hand, tried to fix it, made a disgusting blackened mess. Ah well, I’ll go in and fix that once the oil pastel has set!

February 7, 2018 at 12:19 pm #561328Well done Sarah. I like his body paint…looks like I can see a face on his chest (nipples are eyes). I also like how his left side and arm is in shadow.

February 7, 2018 at 2:00 pm #561412Really nice job, Sarah – your imagination knows no bounds. The body paint here is realistic, bold and colorful – and I, too, can “see” a face on the chest.
I messed up his hand, tried to fix it, made a disgusting blackened mess.
If you’re referring to the left hand, I took it as being in shadow, so the darkened skin tones don’t bother me a bit.
Wonderful!

One I did yesterday, ‘Dream in Turquoise’
All Senneliers except for the Neopastel light turquoise, on Clairefontaine Pastelmat, approx 11″x14.5″, from a sketch I did from life. The original sketch, in my Moleskine sketchbook. I have different Moleskine sketchbooks for different things, this one is for 1 to 5 minute figure drawings:

April 9, 2018 at 3:31 am #561362Morning! Thank you, guys :grouphug:
Below is one I did yesterday, as a bit of a challenge. I wanted drama and emotion, and to use no tools or pencils, just oil pastels and fingers. I can get bogged down in precise details with my clay shaper and pencils and I wanted to be a bit more loose and expressionist. I don’t know if I managed “loose” particularly, but I do feel the expressionism. I love what’s come out and I’m really excited about it!
“God of War Contemplates Destruction”
Senneliers, Mungyo Extra Softs, and Neopastels on Clairefontaine Pastelmat, 13.5″ x 8″, no reference:This is only 90 minutes work, so the part of me that loves fiddling with my clay shaper is screaming that it couldn’t possibly be done, but the rest of me is stamping that down and firmly saying it’s finished
I’m thinking of a series of Gods in this style…

April 9, 2018 at 12:33 pm #561414Wow! For 90 minutes of work, this is terrific! Really loving that shadow from the arm and hand – beautiful way to accent the curving form. Your skin tones look great, and I like the lack of extra blending here.
I think this one is very dramatic and powerful. Great work. If you did a series in this style like you’re hinting at, that would be exciting!

April 10, 2018 at 3:39 am #561363Thanks so much for your kind comments, tuscanny, terriks, and raizes; very much appreciated
Feeling all inspired and excited last night, I did this second one:
“God of Storm Commands the Waves”
Senneliers, Mungyo Extra Softs, and Neopastels on Clairefontaine Pastelmat, 8″ x 13.5″, no reference:I opted for a slimmer, less physically imposing figure than for War, because it felt more watery and airy. He was going to be commanding the waves with arms outstretched and much more drama but then I thought, “Well, he is a God. Just a flick of two fingers would be enough to bring on a tsunami. He doesn’t need to show off.”
I’m afraid the blues haven’t scanned all that well. They are less transparent and slightly more saturated in real life.
