An excellent catch , Ratchet. Though I do admit your reference to ellipses did catch me off guard. I added some lighter colors to the beak.
Glad the gimp is working for you.

Shouts and Claps and Whistles, Yes! That is exactly the area that was flat. It now blends together on the proper planes!
Great Job! Now the bird looks alive.

Lovely parrot , like you did on the color of the feather. Color transitions are perfectly rendered . And the bkgd is less busy to bring the parrot out more attractive . Like this adjustment too . Great work . I'm busy at my art class teaching , will come back soon . Allan

Lovely, Jlombardi. You could add some green or blue to the black to break it up even more.

The use of oranges rather than the reds in the photo seems to give the flower greater definition. Again, your rendering enhances the reference and creates a similar but very original work of art.

Re: March Oil gusher Chat &Challenge

Thank you Ratchet and Tuscany. I decided to give the sun set a try. I have no idea how to do waves. I started with a watercolor wash and added oil pastel. I am really regretting adding the black pastel to the waves on the left.

Lovely work, Jlombardi. Have you tried to scratch back yet? Very carefully, with a blade, you can lift off the excess black to get to the layer underneath it.

I need to stop at the hardware store today anyway. So I will give it a try tonight.

Second attempt was the poppy. Again 6" square. Ages since I have made any attempt at oil pastels - lots of problems with supports, ended up on 500 grade Uart, but not too happy with it.

Hi La Lapelouiniere. Love your paintings. Good use of yellow and reds.
The sanded papers are hard on the fingers but work well with tortillions. I find that i paint too thickly too and that makes it difficult to adjust for hues and values. I find MiTeintes and wc paper work well with thin layers of oil pastel.' Oil based cp are also very useful for detail and subtle shading.
Looking forward to seeing more of your paintings.
